- Misuse of this red emergency button costs money.
While the cable car is moving, the emergency button must not be pressed by anyone outside. - If the red emergency button is pressed, the cable car blocks immediately. End of Season Message
We have finished the 2022 season and thank you for your loyalty. From spring 2023 we will be back with some news for you. High energy prices and the threat of electricity shortages are currently on everyone’s mind, including ours. The energy consumption of the cable car is enormous, especially during the high season when guests go up and down several times a day. There will have to be a change from 2023. We will share the information on our homepage in due course.
We apologise for the technical and natural inconveniences this year. Nature always plays a big role in Ticino, especially the rain. All the best and stay healthy.

azienda Mondò
azienda Mondò is one of our tenants who leases our vineyards.
The Mondò vineyard today
High above the hills of Sementina between Bellinzona and Locarno, Giorgio Rossi, together with his brother Andrea, cultivates about 7 hectares of vines on 30 plots. The various grape varieties such as Merlot, the autochthonous vine Bondola and other varieties are refined into first-class Ticino quality wines and enjoy a whole series of awards and a loyal clientele.
Giorgio Rossi’s Mondò winery is a family business with its own vineyards and vines, which has grown steadily over the years through the cultivation of traditions and a passion for the vines and wine. Special attention is paid to careful cultivation in order to conserve resources and protect nature. The love for nature and a cultivation adapted to the challenging terrain and the plants are the best prerequisites for grapes that are vinified into wines of the highest quality.
History
of our winery
Even before the great age of Merlot in Ticino, Ticino farmers cultivated vines on the higher slopes. At that time, the grapes were still autochthonous varieties, i.e. they came from Ticino, such as the increasingly rare Bondola variety, which is still grown today at the Azienda (German for “winery”) Mondò.
Mario and Nunzia Rossi also grew vines on their small farm high above Sementina, albeit more for their own use. After the grape harvest, the vines were given to the Giubiasco cooperative for pressing. Mario and Nunzia’s three children, Ida, Andrea and Giorgio, left after their education and followed their own professional careers. The youngest son, Giorgio, studied civil engineering and worked in industry after graduating. Read more

Ronco dei Ciliegi – Riserva
In terms of quality, the Ronco dei Ciliegi is the master of our house. It is the result of real back-breaking work on grandfather’s ronco, the steep, terraced slope – a vast plot of land, typical of Sementina – which is marked by holiday memories from childhood on the Pian de la Scéresa; today our children still romp around on it. The blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon is our wine in every sense, from the Ronco to the Scerésa (the cherry grove), between work and pleasure, just as it combines both in its name.
denomination : Ticino Doc
vintage / format : 2018 / 150cl
grape varieties : Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon (9%)
Dark purple colour. Intense bouquet with aromas of ripe fruit and some floral notes, enriched by light aromas that give it further complexity (spices, coffee, roasted). On the palate it is a full-bodied, dense wine, concentrated with red berries and light toasted notes. Ronco dei ciliegi has established itself as a wine with ageing potential while remaining accessible for medium-term consumption.
Drinking : +3 to +11 years since vintage
With the main course, meat and hunting dishes

Tracce di Sassi: Red Wine, Cantine Stucky-Hügin-Ticino
Werner Stucky and Jürg Hügin | Producer of our wine: Tracce di Sassi
In the early eighties, the oenologist Werner Stucky came to Ticino and laid the foundation for Ticino’s quality viticulture. He was fascinated by the wines from Bordeaux and the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. His del Portico Riserva 1983 was the first Ticino barrique wine par excellence. He helped almost all the newcomers get started and gave them advice and support. He produces wines that come from the gut and not from the head, that are substantial, strong in character and very long-lived.
There are some parallels between the original owner of La Rocca and the current landlord Jürg Hügin: In addition to their successful professional careers, Dr Paul Müller as a dentist, Jürg Hügin as an entrepreneur, both wanted to create an area that was close to nature and down-to-earth. Both then went to the viticulture school in Wädenswil to learn the necessary knowledge. Dr Paul Müller moved to La Rocca with his wife in 1942, Jürg Hügin had his first wine harvest in 2010 in the barrel, and both pressed their wine in the wine cellar blasted out of the rock under the house built out of the rock. Dr Paul Müller produced various types of wine until the 1960s: Merlot, white Chasselat, a sparkling wine façon champenoise and a “Grappa Speciale” (distilled from grapes and various types of fruit).
He received various awards during this time, especially for the Merlot. When Dr. Paul Müller and his wife retired from La Rocca after thirty years for reasons of age, the house was used by the family as a holiday home until it passed to Jürg Hügin in 2007, who revived the wine tradition. The vineyards of Tracce di Sassi, Conte di Luna and Temenos are located in a sunny and southern position on the right bank of the Ticino between Sementina and Cugnasco. The soils are light and sandy. The aim is to find the best possible balance of each vine and production quantity. Between 400 and 600 g of grapes are picked per square metre, and the average age of the vines is 30 years.

Wine Tasting & Sale
The Soma and Sita vineyards are located above Lago Maggiore in Vairano. Due to the promontory in front, the vineyard receives 8% more sun than in other areas and is sunlit from morning to evening.
Here, too, we emphasise quality over quantity and reduce the yield to a maximum of 1 kg per vine.
New Direction
New era and a change in management. We are going in a new direction. The rental of our holiday homes will now be transferred to the Foundation. Unfortunately, the long-time member of the Foundation Board and former President of the Foundation passed away on 24.12.2020.
We will be able to take bookings again from June 2021. As you may have noticed, we had quite a flood last August, which destroyed a large part of our nature. We have to restore everything.
We look forward to your visit. Check availability!
German Website coming soon
We are working on the German website, which will be available shortly.
